The Seattle Gaels traveled to Vancouver, WA for the annual Columbia Gorge Cup hurling tournament on Saturday April 16, 2011.
It was a great day of hurling, with the Gaels beating the Benton Brigade, 8-12 to 5-4 in the first round match.
The Gaels faced off against a terrific Columbia Red Branch team for the championship match. It was a hard fought game with Red Branch playing tough the entire way. In the end the Gaels came up victorious, with a 3-11 to 4-5 win.
All the team played hard, but a few special mentions…
Scott “Blue Shoes” Herman was the player of the day. Terrific performance by Ryan “Hollywood” Newitt who had a great day. And Jesse Hart, at full forward put in three goals for the tournament.
The back line got a workout, but came up strong in the end. Kudos to Justin “Crom” Baram-Blackwell, Mike Woods, John “Moosejaw” Beckett and Ron “Thunder” Lorentsen.
And finally, here’s to Chip “The Wizard” Baker who took a hard shot early on – only a dozen stitches.
Excellent job by all. Up the Gaels!
