CLUB CHAIR
Besides chairing meetings, the primary role of a GAA CLUB CHAIR is to be aware of the Club’s Goals and to direct and lead the club towards those goals. As Committee Chair, s/he ensures that the others do their jobs. A Chair can provide hands-on leadership, getting involved in the “grunt” work, but generally a Chair lets others do most of the work and actively supervises to ensure that it is done properly. His/her other main responsibilities include ensuring that all the Committee Members work together as a team and handling problems between Committee and Club Members. Represents the club at the USGAA convention each November.
VICE-CHAIR
The primary role of a GAA CLUB VICE-CHAIR is to assist the Chair as necessary, to act as Chair in the Chairs absence, and to be available to accept special assignments from the Chair, such as chairing special committees (e.g. Nominations, Awards, Tournaments etc.).
SECRETARY
The GAA CLUB SECRETARY is responsible for handling and reporting on all club communications, for maintaining a list of members, for communicating with the membership and with other clubs, for preparing Meeting Agendas (with input from other Committee and Club Members), for taking and reporting meeting minutes, for making arrangements for trips out of town, etc. S/he has a responsibility to work closely with the other Committee Members and especially with the Chair, but also the Treasurer on Club Membership lists, with the Team Managers on trips out-of-town, with the Team Coaches on arranging for games against other clubs. (The role performed by the Club Secretary in the standard GAA Club is, in many ways, the role of a manager. For example, the Secretary-General of the GAA in Dublin is the individual who manages the day-to-day operations of the GAA. While the GAA President chairs meetings, represents the GAA at all official functions, and provides overall leadership, the actual day-today management of the GAA is done by the Secretary General, and in individual Clubs by the Club Secretary. If you communicate with a Club in Ireland, to set up a challenge game, to change a scheduled game time etc. you contact the Club Secretary. If you want something from the GAA County Board, you call the County Secretary. In the GAA, communications are not official if not signed by the Club Secretary).
TREASURER
The GAA CLUB TREASURER is responsible for the handling of all incoming and outgoing Club funds, for preparing and presenting regular financial reports to the membership, and for preparing budgets for the year and individual events. The responsibility includes collecting and accounting for all money owed by and to the Club, all Membership fees, money collected at specific events, admissions at Club functions etc. S/he also has a responsibility to work closely with the other Committee Members e.g. the Club Secretary on Club Memberships, with the Chairs of special events to ensure accurate financial reports etc. These financial responsibilities can be delegated to others on an individual event basis, but the primary responsibility for seeing that the job is done properly is always the Treasurer’s.
REGISTRAR
The GAA CLUB REGISTRAR is responsible for coordinating and arranging for the proper registration of all eligible players with the appropriate Divisional and/or County Boards. This includes seeking out and registering new players as registering the established players. Close coordination with the other Committee Members is required, such as with the Club Secretary and Team Coaches to provide lists of eligible players, new player addresses and phone numbers etc.
PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER (PRO)
Responsible for outreach on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, etc. Promote club and club activities in local press and within the community. Interface with national level and neighboring clubs for larger PR initiatives and cross promotion.
